Serving Nigerian army officer among terrorists that massacred over 200 people in Benue – Former gov’s aide makes shocking revelation
Franc Utoo, a former special assistant to a former governor of Benue state
, has revealed that one of the Fulani militants responsible for the massacre
of over 200 people in Yelwata, Benue state, was a serving Nigerian Army officer, whose identification card was found on him.
He further claimed that the individuals behind this violence are widely known.
The June 2025 attack in Yelwata left more than 200 residents dead, with suspected Fulani militias behind the carnage.
Speaking in an interview, Utoo said that while the attackers were retreating, some were neutralized, and one of the recovered bodies was that of a serving soldier, still carrying his military identification card.
Utoo described this discovery as evidence of state collusion and complicity, insisting that it points to a deliberate and coordinated agenda against the people of Benue.
Utoo served under former governor Samuel Ortom, who has repeatedly warned about Fulani herdsmen attacks and accused them of collaborating with extremist groups.
The current governor, Hyacinth Alia, has also condemned the violence but maintains that the perpetrators are primarily foreign fighters, possibly from Mali, rather than local Nigerian Fulani.
Utoo’s claims have since gone viral on social media, circulating widely on Instagram, Facebook, and various news platforms, as concern continues to grow over the worsening insecurity in Benue state.
