Senator’s Aide Uses Police To Jail Blogger  For Writing On Alleged N200million Wedding

Ajala Adeshina Shuaib, popularly known as Manjala, a prominent blogger with the online platform Kwara Update, has been arrested and remanded at Oke Kura Correctional Centre in Ilorin, Kwara State.

SaharaReporters learnt that this followed allegations that he published posts defaming Mallam Tunji Buhari Sulyman, a senior legislative aide to Senator Saliu Mustapha of Kwara Central.

Manjala was accused of publishing a Facebook post claiming that Mallam Tunji Buhari Sulyman spent N200,000,000 on his wedding.

According to a copy of the First Information Report (FIR) obtained by SaharaReporters, dated November 18, 2025, the complaint was filed by I.P.O. Inspector Abiona Emitope and his team.

The report stated that one Abubakar Mahmud of G50 Gambari, Ilorin, submitted a petition to the Commissioner of Police, alleging that Shuaib’s post was “false and intended to harm the reputation” of Sulyman.

The FIR further claimed that Manjala sent a threatening message implying he was coming for Sulyman “for reasons best known to him.”

The suspect, Manjala, was charged at the Magistrate Court in Ilorin and ordered to remain in custody pending further proceedings.

The statement read, “On 4h November, 2025, One Abubakar Mahmud ‘m’ of G50 Gambari, Ilorin, reported via petition to the Commissioner of Police, Kwara State that on 14th October, 2025, you Ajala Adeshina Shuaib, published a false statement to wit posting of false information on your FACEBOOK Online Journalist Platform called “Kwara Update” that Mall. Tunji Buhari Sulyman spent N200,000,000 on a wedding with intent to harm the reputation of Mal. Tunji Buhari Sulyman. You thereby committed an offence punishable under section 392 of penal code law.

“In that on 14h October, 2025, you Ajala Adeshina Shuaib published on FACEBOOK Online Journalist Platform called “Kwara Update” a threatening message to wit criminal intimidation that you are coming for Mall. Tunji Buhari Sulyman for a reasorn best known to you. You thereby committed an offence punishable under section 397 of penal code law.

The arrest has sparked debate among journalists and civil rights activists, who warn that the action may have chilling effects on independent reporting and online journalism in the state.

On Friday, the defendants’ counsel, Taofiq Olateju, told SaharaReporters that the magistrate court has adjourned the case to next Tuesday for the hearing of bail applications.
