Drama In Abuja As Tinubu Points Out Former Chicago Classmate During Live Event (VIDEO)

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has publicly identified a former classmate from his time at Chicago State University (CSU), in a move that may reignite debates surrounding his academic history. The moment unfolded during the launch of the Renewed Hope Agriculture Mechanisation Programme on Monday in Abuja.
The initiative, which introduced 2,000 tractors and 9,000 specialised farming implements to boost mechanised agriculture in Nigeria, was attended by top government officials, stakeholders, and international partners. During his address, the president veered off script to acknowledge a familiar face in the audience.
“To all of you, Alex was my very good neighbor, and went to the same school with me in Chicago. Never did we dream that I would be in this position as President of Nigeria and Alex a successful businessman from Belarus,” Tinubu said, gesturing towards a man in the crowd, who stood up in acknowledgment.
The brief but striking statement has drawn attention due to the long-standing scrutiny over Tinubu’s educational background. His academic history, particularly the claim that he graduated from CSU in the United States, has been under public and legal investigation since the 2023 general election.
One of Tinubu’s main rivals in that election, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, had filed a court case in the United States, requesting the release of Tinubu’s academic records from Chicago State University. Although CSU confirmed that Bola Tinubu was indeed a student and graduated from the institution, the controversy deepened over alleged discrepancies in the certificate he submitted to Nigeria’s Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Critics argue that the inconsistencies, including differences in gender and format, raise more questions than answers. However, Monday’s event offered Tinubu a rare opportunity to casually affirm his past in the United States by referencing a known associate.
Whether the public identification of “Alex” as a former classmate helps to clear doubts or further fuels the controversy remains to be seen. But for now, the moment has added a new layer to the conversation surrounding the president’s academic journey.
