A source has revealed that Ola Olukoyede, the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), gave a direct order that no staff should attend to Yahaya Bello, the former Governor of Kogi State, when he arrived at the agency’ s headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday. This decision came after Bello’ s manner of arrival was deemed a breach of the commission’ s established protocol.
According to the source, Yahaya Bello was able to bypass several procedural steps at the EFCC because he was accompanied by Kogi’ s current Governor, Usman Ododo, who holds constitutional immunity as a sitting governor.
This immunity, however, does not extend to those who accompany the governor, and the EFCC considers it inappropriate for a political figure to use such influence to bypass standard processes.
The source said, ” Bello’ s arrival at the EFCC in a convoy with a sitting governor and other dignitaries was unacceptable. His manner of entry displayed a disregard for our procedures, and this prompted the EFCC chairman to instruct that no official should engage with him. ”
EFCC protocols require all invited persons to undergo proper documentation, including arriving with legal representation rather than high- ranking political figures. The source emphasized that no Nigerian, regardless of status, is permitted to bypass these rules. The agency’ s leadership viewed Bello’ s arrival, in the company of Governor Ododo, as an attempt to use political influence inappropriately.
The EFCC also questioned why Governor Ododo, who was not invited by the agency, had chosen to accompany the former governor. The commission expressed concern about the governor’ s involvement in the case, which has raised eyebrows within the organization.

On Wednesday, Bello’ s media team released a statement claiming that he had honored the EFCC’ s invitation and was already in custody, but the EFCC quickly denied this through its spokesperson.
