SUSPENSION: Sarki Sasa of the Hausawa Community in Oyo State suspended for Insubordination and Disrespect
Haruna Maiyasin, the Sarki Sasa of the Hausawa community in Oyo State, has been suspended due to allegations of insubordination and disrespect for the Olubadan of Ibadanland. He was also accused of unlawfully conferring chieftaincy titles without consulting the Sarki Hausawa of Ibadanland.
This decision was reached during a Hausawa community meeting, led by the Seriki Hausawa of Ibadanland, Alhaji Ali Zungeru, at his Sabo palace in Ibadan North West Local Government Area.
The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Lekan Balogun, had previously emphasized that only the Sarkin Hausawa of Ibadanland holds the recognized authority as the leader of the Hausa community in the entire metropolis.
The issue arose from a petition by the current Sarkin Hausawa of Ibadanland, Zungeru, who reported the actions of Maiyasin, also known as Sarkin Sasa, as a threat to peace and order in the metropolis.
Zungeru stated that Maiyasin’s continued presence as District Head could lead to a crisis in the area, and he highlighted the historical appointment of the Seriki Hausawa as the sole leader of the Arewa community in Ibadan.
Zungeru also raised concerns about Maiyasin’s alleged plans to remove Seriki Hausawa in Akinyele, Ado Sule, and the Chairman of the Trailer, Yaro Abubakar, who were appointed by Zungeru. Such actions could potentially lead to unrest in the area. Zungeru emphasized that Maiyasin, as an appointee of his, does not have the authority to remove another appointee from office.
As a result, the Sarkin Hausawa of Ibadanland and Arewa traditional institutions decided to suspend Maiyasin’s appointment as the District Head of the Hausa community in Sasa due to his insubordination, disrespect for the Olubadan’s authority, and unauthorized conferral of chieftaincy titles. The suspension remains in effect pending a decision by the entire Arewa Community Council in Ibadan.
