BREAKING: National Assembly Gives Ultimatum to Accountant-General to Account for N100 Billion COVID-19 Funds
The Nigerian House of Representatives has given the Accountant-General of the Federation, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Madein, a 72-hour ultimatum to provide a comprehensive report on the utilization of N100 billion COVID-19 intervention funds released by former President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration between 2020 and 2022. The lawmakers are seeking transparency and accountability in the use of these funds.
Bamidele Salam, Chairman of the House Committee on Public Accounts and a member of the Peoples Democratic Party from Osun, announced the ultimatum due to the AGF’s failure to comply with the committee’s resolution to submit the report by October 27, 2023.
The committee was mandated to investigate the “expenditure incurred under COVID-19 interventions, especially from 2020 to 2022,” following a House resolution on a motion. The AGF has been requested to provide the report before the close of work on Friday, November 3, 2023.
