JUST IN: Minister of Works Dave Umahi Links Bad Roads to Increased Kidnapper Activity
During his defense of the budget of the Ministry of Works before the House of Representatives Committee on Appropriations, the Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, highlighted that the poor road conditions across the country are facilitating the activities of kidnappers.
Umahi, a former governor of Ebonyi State, emphasized the importance of investing in road infrastructure, stating that bad roads contribute to the nation’s insecurity. He pointed out that many kidnappings occur in areas where road infrastructure has deteriorated, making it challenging for law enforcement agencies to combat these crimes.
Furthermore, he stressed the vital role of roads in the country’s agricultural revolution and the overall economic well-being of the states. Umahi noted that inadequate funding has led to prolonged delays in road construction and maintenance, resulting in lengthy and difficult interstate journeys for citizens.
In light of these concerns, Umahi urged lawmakers to allocate more resources to address the road infrastructure challenges. The House of Representatives Committee on Appropriations allowed Umahi to conclude his presentation following his statements.
