PDP moves to expel Wike from party
The Rivers State chapter of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) has warned that it might expel Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), if the ongoing political issues in the state do not settle.
The party has accused Wike, who was previously the state governor, of engaging in several activities that harm the party’s reputation.
PDP officials have stated that if these actions continue, they will begin the process of suspending or expelling him from the party.
In a statement made during a press conference in Port Harcourt, Robinson Ewor, the acting state chairman of the PDP, stated that the party’s position is that Wike’s actions have led to the party’s disgrace.
He also criticized the recent Supreme Court ruling, claiming that it was wrong to consider Martins Amaewhule and 26 other lawmakers as still belonging to the PDP after they publicly joined the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Ewor pointed out that Wike, by serving in President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet, is now fully loyal to the APC.
According to Ewor, a person cannot serve two masters, and Wike’s actions show his loyalty lies with the APC, which is seen as a breach of party loyalty.
The PDP’s acting chairman expressed that the party’s leadership, including the National Executive Committee (NEC) and the State Executive Committees, will take action at the right time.
This may involve disciplinary measures, including suspension or expulsion from the PDP.
Ewor further insisted that the lawmakers who defected to the APC, including Amaewhule, are no longer part of the PDP.
He also added that the Supreme Court’s judgment was flawed and did not accurately reflect the defection of these lawmakers.
Despite the ruling, Ewor maintained that the PDP had sufficient evidence, including an affidavit and public statements, confirming the lawmakers’ defection.
While addressing the matter, Ewor urged Wike to step back from his confrontations and allow peace to return to the state.
This, he argued, would enable Governor Siminalayi Fubara to focus on running the state for the benefit of the people.
