HERDSMEN CRSIS: Ohanaeze Youths Tells Governor To Resign Immediately, SEE What He Allegedly Failed To Do Amidst Killings
The Ohanaeze Youth Council (OYC) has accused Governor Francis Nwifuru of failing to protect the people of Ebonyi State, calling for his immediate resignation. The group alleged that the governor is complicit in the recent herdsmen attacks on Amegu village in the Nkalaha community, Ishielu Local Government Area.
According to a statement by OYC’ s Publicity Secretary, Comrade Chinedu Ikem, the council believes that the Ebonyi State government is actively working against the safety of its citizens. The group expressed outrage over the rising insecurity, blaming the governor for his alleged inaction against those responsible for the attacks.
” The governor has chosen to go after those who expose the security threats instead of dealing with the real criminals terrorizing our land, ” OYC stated.

The controversy escalated following the arrest of OYC National President, Comrade Igboayaka Igboayaka. The youth group claims that the arrest was politically motivated and orchestrated by the governor to silence opposition. OYC further alleged that the Commissioner for Information, Hon. Jude Chikadibia Okpor, in collaboration with the state’ s Commissioner of Police, played a key role in fabricating charges against Igboayaka.
” We strongly condemn the abduction of our leader without any due process, ” the statement read. ” It is an insult to Igbo youths and a calculated attempt to weaken our resistance against oppression. ”
The group claimed that intelligence reports revealed a plot by the Ebonyi State government to secretly try and imprison Igboayaka. According to OYC, the way their leader was arrested— without the knowledge of the Imo State Police Command— suggests foul play.
” How can someone disappear in Owerri, Imo State, and suddenly appear in Ebonyi State without proper legal procedures? ” OYC questioned. ” This is not an arrest; it is a politically sponsored kidnapping. ”
They further lamented that since Igboayaka’ s detention, he has been denied access to his phone, legal counsel, and family members, raising serious concerns about his safety.
The OYC has issued a stern ultimatum to the Ebonyi State government, demanding the immediate release of Igboayaka and a public apology. They warned of a large- scale protest across the state if their demands are not met.
” We will not sit back and watch politicians turn our land into a place where young Igbo people live in fear, ” the council stated. ” If our leader is not released immediately, we will shut down Ebonyi State with a peaceful protest. ”
The OYC also raised concerns about the broader security situation in the Southeast, claiming that young Igbo men are frequently targeted, arrested, and even disappeared under the guise of law enforcement. The group accused security agencies of being tools of oppression instead of serving their constitutional duty to protect citizens.
Many youths, they noted, have been forced to migrate out of the region due to constant intimidation, arbitrary arrests, and political suppression. They warned that if such actions continue, the socio- political stability of the Southeast could be further threatened.
The OYC has called on Igbo leaders and the Inspector General of Police to investigate the alleged abduction of Igboayaka and bring those responsible to justice. They stressed that the oppression of young Igbo activists must stop, and any government involved in such activities should be held accountable.
” The Igbo youth will not allow their voices to be silenced, ” the council declared. ” We demand justice, security, and an end to political persecution in our land. ”
As tensions rise, all eyes are on the Ebonyi State government and the security agencies to see how they respond to these serious allegations. Will Governor Nwifuru address these claims or continue to ignore the growing discontent among Igbo youths? Only time will tell.
