NO MERCY! ! Delta Police Arrest Tricycle Theft Syndicate, Recover Stolen Phones, See How It Happened
The Delta State Police Command has successfully apprehended and paraded four suspects involved in a tricycle theft operation. Authorities also recovered six mobile phones stolen from different victims.
In a video shared via his X (formerly Twitter) handle on Tuesday, February 4, Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, explained the syndicate’ s tactics. He revealed that some members disguised themselves as passengers to distract their targets before robbing them and forcefully pushing them out of the tricycle.

” On a Saturday, I boarded a Keke heading toward Government House. Inside the Keke, there were two other men apart from the rider, making them three. One of them began coughing, and I was concerned, asking him what was wrong. I had no idea he was using that as a distraction to steal my phone. By the time I reached my destination and checked my pocket, my phone was gone. ”
” I was on my way to FMC when I took this particular Keke. The rider was there, and one of the other men was the one coughing. He started spitting saliva on me, and as I tried to ask him what was wrong, he didn’ t respond— he just kept coughing. It was during this moment of distraction that he managed to take my phone. When they reached a certain point, they asked me to get down and then pushed me out. ” One of the suspects, identified as Emeka, admitted to his involvement in the crime, speaking in Pidgin English:
My name is Emeka. This is my Keke guy. If I see him loading passengers, I enter his Keke. When I notice someone carrying a phone, I pretend to cough and snatch it. We started this operation last year. I’ ve sold three phones to the man and four to the woman. I feel terrible about it now and would advise Keke passengers to always keep their phones in their hands. ” The police have urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to law enforcement authorities.
