In a recent interaction with journalists titled ‘ End of Civil and Unfulfilled Gratitude to God by Ndi Igbo: A Way Forward, ‘ Amos Madu, the trailblazing archbishop of the Enugu Anglican Ecclesiastical Province, issued a cautionary message to those advocating for war in Nigeria.
Madu urged them to reconsider their stance, emphasizing that they had not experienced the brutal 30- month- long Nigerian Civil War between 1967 and 1970 and were thus unaware of the dire consequences.
Speaking in Enugu on Wednesday, Madu expressed his concern for the Igbos, stating that they had failed to express gratitude to God for bringing an end to the war. He recalled the surprise that engulfed the nation when the conflict abruptly ceased in 1970.
Madu called for an annual remembrance on January 15th to honor God for His intervention, highlighting the importance of acknowledging the past and showing gratitude.

While some dioceses had been commemorating this day in recent years, Madu noted a significant increase in awareness and participation this year. He attributed this surge to the awakening among the Igbos, urging them to emerge from their prolonged period of hardship, which he likened to a self- imposed state of slavery and bondage. Madu suggested that the Igbos had been striving for freedom from these shackles but had overlooked a crucial step.
