ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! Fearless Ex- DSS Director Demands Immediate Release Of Nnamdi Kanu To End Insecurity In Southeast
In a recent appeal, Mike Ejiofor, a former Director of the Department of State Services (DSS), called on President Bola Tinubu to consider the unconditional release of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). Speaking during an appearance on Arise TV’ s Morning Show, Ejiofor emphasized the need for a political solution to address the ongoing insecurity issues plaguing the southeastern region of Nigeria.
Ejiofor highlighted the alarming security situation in the southeast, where unknown gunmen have been perpetrating violence under the pretense of advocating for Kanu. He stressed that the government must prioritize tackling the various security challenges facing the nation, noting that some issues are political in nature while others require both kinetic (military) and non- kinetic (diplomatic) strategies.
Drawing attention to the successes achieved in combatting insecurity in northeastern Nigeria, Ejiofor pointed out that, despite recent isolated incidents, the region has made significant strides in restoring peace. He also referenced the northwest, where operational efforts against threats like Lukarawa have diminished their activities, underscoring the effectiveness of coordinated intelligence and security measures.
In his assessment of the situation in the southeast, Ejiofor urged the government to proactively seek a political resolution, particularly concerning the actions of the unknown gunmen and the status of Nnamdi Kanu. He appealed directly to the government, stating, ” I will strongly appeal to the government to use this opportunity to unconditionally release Kanu, as those committing these violent acts often claim to be fighting in his name, despite him publicly denouncing such violence. ”
Ejiofor expressed concern over the sit- at- home orders associated with Kanu, which have had a detrimental impact on the local economy and livelihoods. He questioned the logic behind claiming to fight for the welfare of the people while simultaneously undermining their economic stability. In conclusion, he urged the administration to take decisive action to foster peace and security in the southeast through dialogue and engagement, rather than relying solely on military solutions.
