Sowore Accuses Tinubu Of Enriching Allies, Buying $150Million Jet And Lying To Nigerians That His Friend Abandoned

Nigerian human rights activist and 2023 presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has accused President Bola Tinubu of deceiving Nigerians about his economic austerity measures.
In a post shared on his X handle on Wednesday, Sowore questioned Tinubu’s claim that his friends had curtailed their luxurious lifestyles following the removal of the fuel subsidy.
Tinubu had reportedly cited an example on national television of a friend who had four Rolls-Royces and switched to a Honda as a sign of support for his policies.
Sowore, however, dismissed the narrative as disingenuous, accusing Tinubu of failing to lead by example.
He said Tinubu claimed that his friends downscaled their lifestyles, Tinubu has upgraded his own—from using a Dassault Falcon 7X jet to acquiring a $150 million jumbo A330-240 jet.
He noted that the President also purchased a yacht and an Escalade SUV.
The activist further alleged that Tinubu claimed that his close allies have seen unprecedented prosperity over the past year, citing billionaire businessman Gilbert Chagoury as an example.
According to him, Tinubu’s friends have never been richer, Sowore noted, describing the President’s account as a tale of deceit.

“All his -Tinubu friends have been more prosperous in the last year than ever. Ask Chagoury! Liars shall not make heaven! #RevolutionNow #MerryChristmas,” he said.
Meanwhile, Tinubu’s removal of fuel subsidies has faced a backlash, with many Nigerians accusing his administration of exacerbating economic hardship without implementing adequate relief measures.
Sowore’s comments amplify public frustration, citing perceived inconsistencies in the president’s call for austerity.
SaharaReporters had reported that President Bola Tinubu reiterated his administration’s firm stance on the removal of fuel subsidy, stating he has “no regrets whatsoever” about the decision.
He explained that the move was essential to safeguard Nigeria’s financial future and prevent a looming economic disaster.
“We cannot spend the future generation’s investments upfront,” Tinubu said during a media broadcast on Monday monitored by SaharaReporters.
“If we don’t act decisively, we risk heading down a slippery slope that could lead to financial ruin—not just for ourselves, but for our children and grandchildren.”
The President explained that his administration had no choice but to implement tough reforms, including subsidy removal, to redirect resources to critical areas such as infrastructure development and social programs.
“This is not about fear or hesitation. It’s about doing what is necessary,” Tinubu said.
“You have expenditures, but we don’t have the revenue. I don’t want to question those who have priced our resources within our bills. There’s no way out if you give in and allow all the neighboring countries to benefit during Christmas. I have no regrets whatsoever about removing the subsidy.
“It is necessary. We cannot spend our future generations’ investments upfront. What do you think—are you going to say this isn’t the right thing to do? This fear is unnecessary. No matter how you approach it or how you break it down, we still need to meet our obligations. So, cut your coat according to your size.
“We have no choice but to address the issue now. Otherwise, we are headed for a slippery slope that could lead to financial disaster—not just for the road, but for our children and grandchildren. Where are the areas for improvement? Where is the pathway to prosperity?”
