WAHALA : Stop Giving Appointments To Your Friends Alone- Clark Warns Tinubu
Prominent South- South leader, Chief Edwin Clark, has urged President Bola Tinubu to avoid tribalism and nepotism in his appointments, emphasizing that Nigeria belongs to all its citizens.
Clark, leader of the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF), expressed concerns during an interview on Channels Television’ s ” Inside Sources” with Laolu Akande. He accused President Tinubu of favoring personal allies in appointments, potentially neglecting merit and national unity.
” I think the leadership should embrace everybody in this country, ” Clark stated. ” But today, you look for all your friends, whether they are competent, whether they are honest; it’ s wrong. ” He emphasized that Nigeria does not belong solely to the President and that every Nigerian is equal. ” Unless we believe that every Nigerian can rise to the top of the position, otherwise there will be no Nigeria; the problems will be there, ” he added.
Clark also criticized Northern governors for opposing President Tinubu’ s tax reform bills currently before the National Assembly. He described their stance as an ” arrogance of power” and insisted that the tax reforms must proceed.
He further accused the governors and Vice President Kashim Shettima of politicizing the National Economic Council (NEC), asserting that it should remain an advisory body, not an executive one.
Clark’ s remarks highlight ongoing debates about inclusivity and equitable representation in Nigeria’ s governance. His call for merit- based appointments and national unity resonates with many Nigerians advocating for a more inclusive political landscape.
As the nation continues to navigate complex political dynamics, voices like Clark’ s underscore the importance of addressing perceived nepotism and regional biases to foster a sense of belonging among all citizens. The emphasis on equitable appointments and the advancement of critical reforms, such as the proposed tax bills, remains central to discussions about Nigeria’ s future direction.
In conclusion, Chief Edwin Clark’ s appeal to President Tinubu serves as a reminder of the need for inclusive governance that reflects the diverse fabric of Nigerian society. By prioritizing competence and national interest over personal affiliations, the leadership can work towards a more united and prosperous Nigeria.
