Lawyer Drops Bombshell, Sends Unexpected Message To Nigerians As Police Arrest TikToker For Insulting Tinubu
Renowned human rights lawyer and activist, Inibehe Effiong, has expressed dismay over the actions of certain Nigerians who continue to support politicians he accuses of worsening living conditions in the country.
Effiong’ s remarks came in reaction to the controversial arrest of a TikTok user for allegedly insulting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Babajide Sanwo- Olu, and the Inspector General of Police, Egbetokun.
The arrest, which has sparked widespread condemnation among Nigerian activists and citizens, was reported on various social media platforms. The case gained traction after a user on X (formerly Twitter) with the handle @Yemiefash defended the arrest in a post.

Effiong responded sharply to the comment, describing it as indicative of a deeper societal issue. He said: ” It shall not be well with those supporting politicians who are actively making life miserable for Nigerians. ”
He criticised the stance of some legal professionals who, in his view, appear to condone the suppression of free speech. He added: ” A lawyer who sees nothing wrong with the police arresting citizens for cursing public office holders who have inflicted so much pain on Nigerians has a problem. ”
Effiong further argued that expressing discontent with public officials through verbal curses is not a criminal act under Nigerian law. Instead, he proposed that actions such as political sycophancy, particularly the unwarranted praise of government officials failing in their duties, should face scrutiny.

” Placing a curse on someone is not a crime in Nigeria. If anything should be criminalized, it should be praising the government and government officials who have failed to live up to their responsibilities. Before they succeed in criminalizing curses, they must first criminalize political sycophancy, ” Effiong stated.
