Tabby Brown, a well- known Playboy model and former partner of footballer Raheem Sterling, tragically passed away in October 2023 due to complications arising from a Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) surgery. She was 38 years old.
An inquest revealed that Brown had secretly traveled to the Dominican Republic to undergo the cosmetic procedure, which included liposuction. She had informed her family that the trip was for sightseeing, concealing her true intentions. Upon her return to her home in south London, she began experiencing severe health issues.
On October 13, 2023, just three days after returning to the UK, Brown suffered a fatal ” fat embolism. ” Her mother, Mahasin, discovered her collapsed in their home. Despite the immediate arrival of emergency services, Brown was pronounced dead shortly afterward.
The South London Coroners Court conducted an investigation into her death, which unveiled critical details about her condition. Coroners found ” puncture wounds” in her pelvic region and ” numerous small globules of fat” in her lungs, consistent with complications from fat embolization. These findings confirmed the link between her sudden death and the surgical procedure she underwent abroad.
Following her surgery, Brown reportedly felt unwell but did not seek professional medical help. Instead, she opted to self- medicate with painkillers. Her mother initially believed she was battling a viral infection contracted during her travels, remaining unaware of the surgery until after her death.
In a statement released by her family, Brown’ s siblings expressed their shock and grief, highlighting that she had not informed her mother or other family members about the operation. They described her as a passionate individual who embraced a healthy lifestyle, combining her love for fitness with an enthusiasm for food.
Brown’ s death sheds light on the risks associated with medical tourism, especially for complex procedures like BBLs. These surgeries have gained popularity globally but are also associated with significant complications when not performed under optimal conditions or followed by adequate post- operative care.
