Salihu Moh Lukman, former National Vice Chairman (North West) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has written an open letter to Nigeria’ s former President, Olusegun Obasanjo, calling on him to lead efforts in forming a unified political coalition.
Lukman’ s letter also appealed to other former Nigerian leaders, including General Yakubu Gowon, General Ibrahim Babangida, General Abdulsalami Abubakar, Goodluck Jonathan, and Muhammadu Buhari, urging them to take collective responsibility for addressing Nigeria’ s deepening political and socio- economic crises.
In the letter, Lukman criticised the refusal of some opposition figures, including three former state governors, to align under a single political platform. He attributed this resistance to their personal political ambitions, which he argued have hindered efforts to create a credible alternative to the ruling APC.
Lukman expressed concerns over the historical pattern of manipulating political successions, which he described as a significant factor in Nigeria’ s current challenges. He argued that the practice of ” anointing” leaders has perpetuated the rise of what he termed ” Satanic leaders, ” worsening the nation’ s governance issues.
” Without resorting to blame games, whether today’ s leaders of this country are made by Satan or God, all of you put together, individually and collectively, are the parents of today’ s Satanic leaders of Nigeria, ” Lukman stated in the letter.
The former Director General of the APC’ s Progressives Governors’ Forum (PGF) called for political restructuring to produce leaders with what he described as a ” Godly genotype. ”
Lukman identified three former governors and a faction associated with one of the legacy parties that merged to form the APC as key players in this divide. He claimed that these groups have prematurely selected governorship candidates in several states, with indications that they have also identified a presidential candidate.
Addressing Obasanjo and other past leaders, Lukman urged them to take responsibility for reshaping Nigeria’ s political landscape. He emphasised that their collective influence and experience could serve as a catalyst for the country’ s transformation.
” Whether Nigeria can produce leaders with Godly genotype and not Satanic genotype depends on whether we can re- engineer our politics to produce at least one political party with the potential to produce leaders with Godly genotype, ” Lukman wrote.
