Christian Worshippers Fight Dirty, Kill Each Other Inside Methodist Church, See Why They Are Fighting
A crisis erupted in one of the Methodist churches in Taraba State as worshippers engaged themselves in a brutal fight, leading to the death of some people. The swift intervention of the police reduced the tension and harm the riot would have caused. Many Christians in the State, after the clash, expressed disappointment, especially towards the government because they had been on the matter that caused the fight for a very long time.
Members of the United Methodist Church in Nigeria (UMCN) and the Global Methodist Church (GMC) reportedly engaged in a violent clash, leading to the death of three people in Taraba State. The dispute between the two Methodist churches has been happening for a long time, in fact, the government has intervened. The matter escalated last Sunday when one of the churches defiled the order of the government.
In the statement released by the State police spokesperson, Abdullahi Usman, it was made known that the fight occurred at the church in Munga Dasso village of Karim- Lamido Local Government Area. The fight started due to the prolonged leadership dispute between the churches. They have been fighting for the next person to lead the two churches. Their disagreement led to why the churches departed.
When the disagreement initially started, it was gathered that the government sealed the churches in order to settle the difference. However, the matter escalated on Sunday when one of the factions unsealed their church for service. Security operatives were deployed to the scene immediately but unfortunately, three people were already killed before their arrival.
Six people have been arrested and are currently in the custody of the police. Some worshippers expressed disappointment while speaking to newsmen, they were disappointed over the inability of the government to resolve the crisis between the two churches, adding that the matter is already jeopardizing peace and security in Taraba State.
