Jill Jacobson, a veteran actress renowned for her roles in popular television shows such as Falcon Crest and Star Trek, has died at the age of 70. Jacobson passed away on December 8 at Cedars- Sinai’ s Culver West Health Center in Culver City, California, following a prolonged battle with esophageal cancer, according to her close friend Dan Harary, who confirmed the news to The Hollywood Reporter.

Jacobson’ s acting career spanned more than four decades, with significant roles in both television and film. She became widely recognized for her portrayal of Erin Jones in 22 episodes of the hit prime- time drama Falcon Crest from 1985 to 1987. She also starred as Larue Wilson in eight episodes of The New Gidget from 1986 to 1987.
Her contributions to the Star Trek franchise further solidified her status in the industry. Jacobson appeared in Star Trek: The Next Generation in 1989, playing the character Vanessa, and later guest- starred as Aroya in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine in 1996.
In addition to her television success, Jacobson’ s versatility as an actress extended to notable appearances in shows such as Newhart, Murphy Brown, Quantum Leap, Who’ s the Boss? , and Arli$. Her work also included roles in Sledge Hammer! , My Sister Sam, and Crazy Like a Fox. On the big screen, Jacobson appeared in Ron Howard’ s Splash (1984) alongside Tom Hanks, the 1989 crime thriller The Jigsaw Murders, and the 2020 comedy Reality Queen! starring Denise Richards.
According to IMDb, Jacobson’ s final project was Merrily, a drama film by writer- director Robert McAtee, set to be released next year.
Born in Texas, Jacobson spent her early years between Beaumont and Dallas. She earned a degree in Radio, TV, and Film from the University of Texas at Austin before moving to Los Angeles to pursue her acting career. Her on- screen debut came in 1977 with the titular role in the horror film Nurse Sherri.
Outside of acting, Jacobson was also an accomplished stand- up comedian, performing regularly at prominent Los Angeles venues such as The Comedy Store and The Improv. Additionally, she dedicated time to philanthropic efforts, volunteering with the American Cancer Society.
In a candid appearance on The Jim Masters Show on YouTube this past September, Jacobson revealed her three- year battle with esophageal cancer, describing it as a period that ” took me out of the game for a while. ” Despite the challenges, she expressed gratitude and a desire to inspire others. ” Now I’ m so grateful, I just want to keep going, I want to help people, ” she said during the interview.
Jacobson is survived by family members, close friends, and her beloved dogs, Benny and Kowalski. Her friend Dan Harary described her as ” beautiful, energetic, and positive to the end, ” adding that she will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
