Dr. Devakumar Edwin, Vice President of Oil and Gas at Dangote Industries Limited, disclosed this during a visit by the Japanese Business Community in Nigeria, led by Japan’ s Ambassador- designate to Nigeria, Suzuki Hideo. Edwin emphasized that the refinery is not only exporting petrol but has also begun sending diesel to international markets and jet fuel to European countries.
” In recent weeks, we’ ve exported petrol to Cameroon, Ghana, Angola, and South Africa, among others, ” Edwin noted. ” Diesel has gone all over the world, and jet fuel is being heavily exported to European markets. Our products are already making their mark internationally. ”
The refinery, regarded as the world’ s largest single- train refinery, is a brainchild of Nigerian billionaire Aliko Dangote. Edwin highlighted that it is a testament to Nigerian ingenuity, as the facility was both designed and constructed by Nigerian professionals under the Dangote Group. Acting as its own Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contractor, the company showcases Nigeria’ s capability in handling complex infrastructure projects of global significance.
Dr. Edwin reiterated that the Dangote Petrochemical project aims to enhance industrial development across Africa by leveraging the continent’ s vast crude oil resources. ” By refining products locally, we are creating a virtuous cycle of industrial development, job creation, and economic prosperity, ” he said.
Ambassador Suzuki Hideo described the refinery as an engineering marvel and a symbol of Nigeria’ s technological progress. Other Japanese delegates echoed his sentiments, with Takashi Oku, Managing Director of the Japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO), calling it a remarkable project that underscores Nigeria’ s role as Africa’ s gateway.
The Dangote Refinery is set to bring significant economic benefits to Nigeria. By reducing the need for fuel imports, it will cut foreign exchange outflows and increase tax revenues.
