Officials from the Federal Capital Territory Police Command have taken into custody two individuals, Emmanuel Linus and Moses Daniel, for posing as Nigerian Army personnel.
Linus was arrested on November 30, 2024, at around 2: 00 p. m. , while wearing a complete Nigerian Army camouflage uniform. During questioning, he reportedly showed a counterfeit military ID that incorrectly stated his birth date as December 20, 2024, which immediately raised red flags.
While presenting the suspects and others recently detained in the FCT on Tuesday, the Commissioner of Police, Tunji Disu, indicated that Linus and Daniel were part of a criminal group focused on defrauding unsuspecting victims.
This group allegedly procures goods and services by using fake bank alert notifications to trick sellers. The police have initiated a thorough investigation into the situation and are actively working to identify and arrest additional members of the group. Disu assured the public that more information will be shared as the investigation continues.
Disu also mentioned that in response to his directive prohibiting vehicles without number plates and those with tinted windows, 296 vehicles had been seized. He stated, ” I am happy to announce the advancements made since the establishment of the Command’ s Special Tactical Team. Up to now, we have impounded 296 vehicles for infractions like using tinted windows, operating with a single license plate, and having concealed or damaged number plates. ”
Moreover, two suspects were captured for vandalizing streetlight poles behind the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and for stealing cables. Disu pointed out that one of the suspects is a former police officer, and the recovered cables are valued at over ₦20 million.
He elaborated, ” After five days of surveillance due to suspicious activities around manholes in the vicinity, we made a significant breakthrough. On November 29, 2024, at roughly 3: 49 a. m. , we received a distress call about the destruction of streetlight poles behind the Foreign Affairs Office in Abuja.

” Our team acted quickly, apprehending two suspects, Awal Mustaf and David Maji (the dismissed police officer), during the operation. The stolen streetlight cables, owned by the Federal Capital Development Authority, are estimated to be worth between ₦20 million and ₦25 million. The items recovered from the suspects include two medium- sized streetlight poles, several large streetlight poles, and cables.
” Both suspects are currently in custody and are undergoing a thorough investigation. ”
In total, Disu reported that 16 suspects, 11 pieces of evidence, and seven vehicles were displayed.
