In a daring show of defiance, supporters of Simon Ekpa, the detained key figure in the Biafra independence movement, have once again stormed a forest in Abia State, lowering the Nigerian flag and raising the Biafran flag. This bold move comes as the Nigerian Army continues to remove several Biafran flags mounted by Ekpa’ s loyalists in schools and markets across Nigeria’ s South- East region.

However, the government’ s heavy- handed approach has only served to galvanize support for the movement, with many Igbo people feeling that their rights and interests are being ignored.

Meanwhile, the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has distanced itself from the recent purported declaration of the Biafran Republic by a group in Finland.
In a statement released by its spokesperson, Emma Powerful, IPOB described the declaration as a scam perpetrated by individuals seeking to destabilise the region.
Powerful stressed that the only legitimate declaration of Biafra was made by Dim Ojukwu in 1967 and that any subsequent declaration is null and void.
He accused those involved in the Finland event of being agents provocateurs who aim to undermine the Biafran struggle.
IPOB reiterated its commitment to achieving Biafra’ s independence through peaceful means, including a United Nations- supervised referendum.
