However, this assertion is untrue; the audio in the video has been altered. The original clip comes from Trump’s victory speech after the 2024 US presidential election.
Misleading Claims Spread via Viral Video
On November 15, 2024, a video shared on X inaccurately states that “U.S. President Donald Trump has demanded that the Nigerian government release Mazi Nnamdi Kanu by November 31, 2024, or face repercussions.”
The video has received almost 900 shares and comes from an account that frequently posts about Biafra, which has a modest following of 1,000 users. In the video, a woman restates the claims in the caption before it shifts to Trump allegedly issuing a stern warning to Nigeria.
In the edited footage, Trump seems to declare: “The detention of Mr. Nnamdi Kanu is extremely concerning, raising significant questions about justice, fairness, and human rights. I urge the Nigerian government to release him immediately. If he remains in custody past November 31, 2024, my administration will start cutting all aid to Nigeria, including humanitarian, medical, and financial support.”
