SHOCKING: After Biafrans Arrived Finland To Declare Biafra Independence On Monday, IPOB Drops Unexpected Bombshell
The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has addressed the planned gathering of Biafrans in Finland, where an independence declaration for Biafra is scheduled for December 2.
This event, announced by Simon Ekpa, a self- proclaimed Prime Minister of the Biafra Republic Government in Exile, has been a topic of significant debate. IPOB, while commending the gathering of Biafrans, has dismissed the planned declaration as lacking practical validity.
Simon Ekpa, known for his controversial activities and alleged connections to terrorism in Nigeria’ s South- East, announced earlier that a Biafra convention would hold from November 29 to December 3 in Finland.
The highlight of this event was to be the declaration of Biafra’ s independence on December 2. However, IPOB, which has consistently distanced itself from Ekpa, has questioned the feasibility and sincerity of such a declaration.
In a detailed statement shared on X (formerly Twitter), IPOB clarified its stance, expressing support for the idea of Biafrans gathering but criticising the approach and credibility of the planned declaration.
IPOB argued that for a sovereignty declaration to be meaningful, certain prerequisites must be met, including control of territory, an independent economy, functioning institutions such as banks, and recognised leadership. The group described the proposed declaration as ” deceitful, ” as Nigeria still controls the territory and economy of the South- East region.
IPOB stated: ” There are some groups of Biafrans travelling to Finland, according to them ‘ to declare Biafra, ‘ although we understood that such declaration does not hold water because for you to declare sovereignty you must first secure and control your territory and your economy, establish functioning institutions like banks, etc. , and leadership. ”
Another significant aspect of IPOB’ s statement was its criticism of the organisers’ reluctance to publicly display their Biafran identity. IPOB expressed disappointment over the lack of visible symbols of Biafra, such as flags or t- shirts, by those travelling to Finland. They noted that such behaviour portrays a lack of confidence and undermines the credibility of the movement.
” It is very annoying; you said you are going to declare Biafra, but you are very scared to put on a Biafra t- shirt, take hold of your Biafra and be very proud of your Biafran identity. The outside world must see that boldness in you as a Biafran, ” IPOB remarked.

The group also contrasted this with their own practices, emphasising their pride in publicly showcasing Biafran symbols during international events. IPOB questioned whether the Finland gathering was genuinely aimed at advancing the cause of Biafra or merely another act of deceit.
Despite its criticisms, IPOB acknowledged the significance of Biafrans coming together to discuss the restoration of Biafra. The group reiterated its support for genuine efforts toward the actualisation of Biafra but cautioned against actions that could misrepresent the struggle or mislead supporters.
” I am not against the gathering of Biafrans; it always gives me joy to see Biafrans gathered and speak about Biafra restoration. In that regard, it is always a plus for Biafra restoration, ” the statement read.
