TEARS Flow As Several Worshippers Tragically Die During CHURCH Feast, See What Killed Them
The Catholic Diocese of Aba has confirmed that a tragic stampede during the annual Christ the King Feast resulted in the deaths of several worshippers, primarily due to severe overcrowding during the procession. The incident occurred on Sunday, November 24, 2024, and among the deceased were two elderly women.
Witness accounts describe the scene as chaotic, with one individual noting that the crowd was so dense there was ” little or no breathing space. ” This overwhelming turnout contributed to the unfortunate events that unfolded during the celebration.
In a statement released on November 25, 2024, Bishop Augustine Echema expressed the diocese’ s sorrow over the incident, labeling it an unprecedented tragedy. He assured the public that investigations are currently underway to uncover the details surrounding the event, including the identities of those who lost their lives and the precise circumstances that led to the stampede.
The statement conveyed the church’ s profound regret, stating, ” It is with deep regret and sadness that the annual joyful celebration of our Diocesan Feast Day ended in the most tragic way. Some of our devout and gallant Catholics, who joined the Eucharistic procession in a joyful mood, met their death due to overcrowding. ”
The diocese also extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and expressed sympathy for those injured in the incident. ” We condole with the families of the deceased and sympathize with those injured, who are still receiving treatment in the hospital, ” the statement continued.
The Aba community mourns this loss, and the diocese encourages prayers for the deceased, their families, and all those impacted by this heart- wrenching event. The church remains steadfast in its mission to support its congregation in both joyous and sorrowful times, reinforcing the importance of community and compassion in the face of adversity.
