In the early hours of Saturday, a fire incident occurred at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso, causing significant damage. The fire, which started at approximately 5 a. m. , reportedly originated in a pediatric consultant’ s office due to an alleged electrical spark. It spread to the Emergency and Accident Unit, destroying property worth millions of naira.
Hospital insiders revealed that the fire prompted the swift evacuation of 16 patients from the affected ward to ensure their safety. Fortunately, there were no casualties reported. The hospital’ s Public Relations Officer, Omotayo Ogunleye, confirmed the incident and commended the rapid response of the hospital staff and other emergency responders.
In an official statement, Ogunleye emphasized that the fire was brought under control promptly, ensuring minimal disruption to hospital activities. ” The management of the institution wishes to state that the fire incident that occurred early this morning (Saturday) was put out without any remarkable damage to the hospital, ” the statement read.
Ogunleye further noted that investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing to prevent a recurrence. She assured the public that the facility has resumed normal operations. ” At the moment, light has been restored, and work activities have resumed in the section where the fire incident took place. The management wishes to thank all staff, the state fire service, and all other well- wishers for their concerns and prompt response, ” she added.
