BLOODY DECEMBER As Tanker Explosion Claims 2 Lives, Brutally Burnt Them Beyond Recognition, See How It Happened
Tragedy struck along the Abakaliki– Onueke- Afikpo Expressway in Ebonyi as a fuel- laden tanker, carrying Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, erupted into a fiery explosion, claiming the lives of two individuals. The incident occurred on Friday at approximately 8: 20 p. m. at the airport junction axis of the highway in Onueke.
Igwe Nnabuife, the sector commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ebonyi, confirmed this unfortunate event on Saturday, December 30, 2023, in Abakaliki. Nnabuife expressed the challenge in identifying the vehicle’ s registration number due to it being engulfed in flames beyond recognition.
Regrettably, the burnt tanker claimed the lives of two individuals, leaving one severely injured. The deceased have been transported to the Alex- Ekwueme Federal Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki, while the injured party received medical attention at Onueke General Hospital in Ezza- South Local Government Area of Ebonyi.
The sector commander deemed the incident as unfortunate and initiated efforts to remove the charred wreckage from the expressway, emphasizing the need for swift action to address potential hazards.
A firefighter and driver from the Ebonyi Fire Service, who chose to remain anonymous, shared insights into their intervention efforts. Through divine intervention, they successfully extinguished the raging fire, preventing further calamity. Unfortunately, two individuals— identified as the driver and an unidentified passenger— were burned beyond recognition in the tanker.
