Durbi Village, Shere district, Jos East local government area witnessed yet another heart- wrenching incident as assailants struck, claiming the lives of two innocent individuals on a fateful Saturday night.
This incident comes as a cruel blow to a state still grappling with the aftermath of the Christmas Eve attacks that left over one hundred and ninety people dead in Bokkos and Barkin- Ladi local government areas.
Transition Implementation Committee chairman, Markus Nyam, confirmed this grim news on a somber Sunday, shedding light on the horrifying details of the recent assault. The assailants, shrouded in darkness, invaded Durbi Village, unleashing violence that resulted in the tragic deaths of a father and his son.
The identities of the victims were not immediately disclosed, intensifying the sorrow enveloping the community. Despite the overwhelming grief, there emerged a glimmer of bravery in the face of adversity.
Nyam acknowledged the valiant efforts of the vigilantes within the community, recounting how they courageously confronted the assailants. In a desperate bid to protect their fellow villagers, these brave individuals engaged the attackers, leading to the demise of one assailant. The others, however, managed to evade justice, disappearing into the shadows.
The Joint Security Task Force, known as Operation Safe Haven, swiftly responded to the distress call from Durbi Village. Their timely intervention helped prevent further devastation, as they worked in tandem with the local vigilantes to secure the area. The collaboration between the community and the security forces underscores the urgent need for cohesive efforts in the face of such heinous acts.
