JUST IN: Abiodun laments rise in cultism cases
Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has expressed concern over the surge in cultism and the attendant bloodletting in the state, urging the Department of State Services to devise measures to fight the criminal act to a standstill
Abiodun highlighted that the prevalence of cult activities which was never a major issue in the past is now becoming a huge source of concern and quite worrisome to the residents of the state.
The Governor disclosed this on Thursday at the South-west Zonal Conference of State Directors of Security held at Mitros Hotel, Ibara GRA, Abeokuta, the state capital.
While addressing the audience of security operatives, Abiodun expressed worry that even schoolchildren and artisans were also involved in cultism.
Abiodun said there is an urgent need for the men of the Department to understand the motives behind such involvement, the reasons for the escalating violence and killings among cult members, and the incentives that attract individuals to join the groups in the state.
The governor equally urged the DSS to investigate the root causes behind the worrying trend.
“Cultism has become so prevalent lately in Ogun State. When we were growing up, these were not the cases we encountered. It is disheartening to see young schoolchildren and artisans engaging in cult activities. We need to delve deeper and unravel the exact root causes to address this menace effectively
