JUST- IN: Ijaw People Send Unexpected Message To Donald Trump To Take Action On This In Nigeria
The Ijaw National Congress (INC) worldwide, a leading socio- cultural organization representing the Ijaw people, has congratulated U. S. President- elect Donald Trump on his electoral victory.
In a letter from its President, Prof. Benjamin Okaba, the INC expressed optimism that Trump’ s administration would foster collaboration with Nigeria to address global challenges, particularly in environmental protection and sustainable development.
The letter, released in Abuja on Monday, highlighted the INC’ s hope that Trump’ s presidency would promote global unity and tackle pressing environmental issues. Okaba emphasized the unique challenges faced by oil- producing communities, especially in Nigeria’ s Niger Delta region, where the Ijaw people reside.
” We urge you to use your presidency to promote unity and address environmental concerns that threaten the well- being of our communities, ” Okaba said, pointing out that pollution and environmental degradation have long affected the Ijaw communities and other oil- producing regions.
Okaba noted the INC’ s commitment to fostering positive relationships between nations. The organization, he explained, serves as the umbrella body for the Ijaw people worldwide and plays a key role in advocating for their interests. He expressed hope that the INC and the Trump administration could collaborate on various initiatives to improve the quality of life for people in the Niger Delta.
” Under your leadership, we hope for increased dialogue and partnership on issues affecting our communities, recognizing our distinct homogeneous race in the Niger Delta region of the Nigerian state, ” Okaba said. He also called for cooperation on environmental protection to ensure sustainable management of natural resources, benefiting both current and future generations.
In addition to environmental issues, Okaba outlined other areas where the INC hopes to see progress, including economic development and cultural exchange. He mentioned that strengthening economic growth and stability could empower communities, while cultural exchange could help promote understanding and celebrate diversity between the U. S. and Nigeria.
Reflecting on Trump’ s recent electoral success, Okaba extended his warmest congratulations on behalf of the Ijaw people.
