The President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has reacted to the arraignment of 37 detained minors in court and the collapse of four minors in the courtroom. Reacting to the arraignment of the detained minors by the Nigeria Police in connection to last August’ s protests, the President gave four orders.
Firstly, he directed that all the children be released without prejudice to the ongoing legal processes.
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, made known the President’ s four orders to State House correspondents during an emergency briefing at the Aso Rock Villa, Abuja.

He said that following the examination of the circumstances surrounding the cases, Tinubu issued the order and stressed on the need to balance legal processes with humanitarian concerns.
The Minister in his words said, ”
” I had a short briefing with Mr President just this evening, and he has issued the order for the immediate release of all the minors that have been arrested by the Nigerian police without prejudice to whatever legal processes. They are all minors. The President has directed that all of them be released immediately” .

Furthermore, the second order was directed to the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction to see to the welfare of the children and ensure their return to their respective parents.

The third order of Mr President is the setting up of a committee that must oversee all the circumstances surrounding the arrest, the arraignment, treatment, and finally, the release of all the minors to their parents in whatever part of the country.
The fourth order is the taking of disciplinary actions against any enforcement agents or government officials who have committed any infractions in the course of the arraignment of the children. In addition, the legal process during this time will be investigated.
