‘Arrest all Nigerian pastors including me, Adeboye and Oyedepo’: Cleric tells Tinubu amid insecurity crisis
A Nigerian cleric has stirred massive reactions online after calling on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to arrest prominent pastors across the country, including Pastor Enoch Adeboye of the Redeemed Christian Church of God and Bishop David Oyedepo of Living Faith Church.
The cleric, who made the statement while preaching in Yoruba during a church sermon, argued that Nigeria’s challenges persist because pastors have not united in forceful intercessory prayers for the country.
In the viral video, he said all pastors, including himself, should be rounded up and taken to Eagle Square in Abuja under military supervision. According to him, the government should create a harsh atmosphere that compels religious leaders to pray aggressively for national restoration.
He further stated that he should be used as a scapegoat to send a strong warning to other clerics.
“Arrest all of us, Adeboye, Oyedepo, and every pastor, including me. Take us to Eagle Square with soldiers. Shoot me first and tell others that if they don’t pray to solve Nigeria’s problems, they will face the same fate,” he said in Yoruba.
The cleric insisted that only such drastic measures would push religious leaders to take responsibility for solving Nigeria’s socio-economic and political issues through prayer.
The remarks have sparked debate online, with Nigerians divided over his extreme submission. While some found it funny, others argued that prayers is not the solution to Nigeria’s insecurity problems.
