2 Years After Angry Man Burn His Mother Alive, See His BRUTAL End
A man identified as Stephen Jiya has finally been sentenced to death by hanging two years after he burnt his biological mother to death.
While in court, Justice Halima Ibrahim Abdulmalik, the Chief Judge of Niger State, said that the convicted individual was found guilty of culpable murder, which is a crime that is punished under Section 221 of the penal code legislation.
Jiya, a resident of the Suleja area of the state, went to visit his mother, Mrs Comfort Jiya, who was a retired Director in the Niger State Ministry of Education and lived in Dutsen- Kura, Minna.
On December 20, 2021, Jiya used a bottle of petrol that he discovered in her kitchen to set Mrs Comfort Jiya ablaze. Neighbours immediately transported the mother to the General Hospital in Minna. She was sent to another hospital where she died after a while.
Jiya was promptly taken into custody by the state Criminal Intelligence Department (SCID) of the Police command for the purpose of questioning. During the course of his confession, he said that he had murdered his mother because she interfered in his marital issues.
The Special Courts Investigations Division (SCID) agents had previously brought him before a magistrate court on preliminary charges while they sought legal counsel from the Director of Public Prosecutions office on the appropriate prosecution in a competent court. His previous charges, brought before Justice Halima Abdulmalik of High Court 1 on September 14, 2022, by the Director of Public Prosecutions, were under Section 221 of the Penal Code Law, which, upon conviction, imposes the death sentence.
