SEE Hilarious Moment Nasarawa Lawmakers Turned State House Of Assembly To Boxing Ring
The 4th of April 2016, is certainly a day not to be forgotten in history as the one’ s whose duty was to restore order, picked violence over it, refusing to accept ‘ peace’ as an option.
The Nasarawa State House of Assembly was divided on Friday, April 4th 2016 over the appointment of local council administrators, which led to some members getting into a brawl during plenary.
Prior to the fight, the then governor, Tanko Al- Makura, had appointed and installed sole administrators to run the local government councils’ operations until elections were held on March 24, ending the two- year term of the chairmen of the state’ s eleven local government areas.
The governor’ s decision to appoint administrators instead of conducting immediate elections after the expiration of the local government chairmen’ s tenure didn’ t sit well with some people and thus, sparked conflict among the lawmakers.
Representative of the House committee on Information, Mr. Makpa Malla had described the appointment of the sole administrators by the governor as illegal.

He had said that the house could not continue to sit down and watch illegality operate in the state without being checked.
” As a responsible House in which some of us are lawyers, we insisted that the right thing must be done. ”
” The constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria section 7 sub section 1 as amended guarantees democratically organised system of local government and the constitution defined how the local government system, structure should be run, ” Malla had said.
” That is why, we are kicking against the appointment of the sole administrators which only existed in military era and as respecters of the rule of law, we must ensure that the executive also respect the rule of law. ”
Allegations of bribery and a subsequent motion for suspension led to chaos, including a physical fight among the legislators.
One of the members picked up the mace to use as his battle weapon but was stopped halfway, yet he wasn’ t deterred and decided to engage in a combat with his bare hands.
Another law maker was also spotted flying like batman and one would wonder where men of their ages got the agility and power to engage in such brawl.
Following the scuffle, some members were suspended and the suspension of some members resulted in an adjournment, but later, in a separate meeting, these members were indefinitely suspended without full allowances but half salaries.
While speaking to media men, the suspended lawmakers expressed their intention to seek legal recourse before leaving the assembly complex in protest.
Also speaking during the press conference, Mr. Abubakar Oberre Kana, explained that there was no law guiding the operation of the sole administrators in the state which necessitated the house kicking against the appointment of the sole administrators.
” The sole administrators are standing on what law? Who is now determining the salaries of the sole administrators and their tenure and if the sole administrators commit an offence, what laws can the state use to punish them? ” Kana had said.
” In 2011, the state House of Assembly only passed an existing law, section 3 to 14 of the law provide a room for Transitional Committee Members for development areas not sole administrators, now which law provides a room for the appointment of the sole administrators? “
