A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has ordered the remand of two individuals, Saheed Jamiu (aka Osama) and Uyime Godwin Udoekwere, over allegations that they falsely accused Omowunmi Aloba, the widow of the late singer Mohbad, of being involved in his death.
The duo was arraigned on Monday before Justice Ibrahim Kala by the police, facing charges of criminal conspiracy, cyberstalking, and defamation.
According to court documents, the accused were said to have staged a public protest in Ikeja, Lagos, in early July 2025, displaying placards accusing Omowunmi of being responsible for Mohbad’s untimely death. They also reportedly circulated the same claims on various social media platforms.
The prosecution stated that their actions violate provisions of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015.
Both defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges. Their legal counsel pleaded for bail, arguing they pose no threat to the case. However, the judge declined the oral bail request, instructing that a formal application must be filed.

Pending the hearing of the bail application, Justice Kala ordered that the accused be remanded at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre.
The case has been adjourned until September 25, 2025, when the trial is expected to begin.
Legal analysts say the case could become a major precedent on the limits of free speech in Nigeria’s digital space, especially in the age of TikTok activism.
Since Mohbad’s sudden death in September 2023, his widow Omowunmi has been the target of numerous online accusations. In a previous interview in October, she dismissed the claims, saying her late husband had been subjected to intense pressure and threats before his demise.
