BREAKING: Tinubu Breaks Silence, Issues Strong Warning To Fubara, Wike; Orders Police To Do This Immediately
In light of the recent local government council election in Rivers State, President Bola Tinubu has expressed concern over reports of violence and destruction in the state.
Following incidents of arson and explosions, the President issued a strong warning to the state’ s political leaders and their supporters to remain peaceful and respect the rule of law.
President Tinubu specifically addressed Governor Siminalayi Fubara and other political figures in Rivers, urging them to reduce tensions and stop their supporters from engaging in violent activities. He called for restraint during this period of heightened political activity, reminding all parties that violence is not a solution in a democratic society.
The President has directed law enforcement agencies, particularly the police, to take immediate action to restore peace and ensure the safety of the state’ s public institutions. He emphasized the importance of securing government facilities, which have been built with public resources, and stressed that these assets must be protected from acts of vandalism.
President Tinubu made it clear that Nigeria’ s democratic system, now 25 years strong, cannot afford to entertain acts of lawlessness or ” self- help” as a way to resolve political disagreements. He underlined the role of the judiciary in settling political disputes, affirming that all grievances from the recent election should be addressed through legal means.
This press release was issued by Bayo Onanuga, the President’ s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, on October 7, 2024.
The President’ s statement aims to ensure that the ongoing political unrest in Rivers State does not escalate further, while reinforcing the importance of upholding the law and maintaining peace in Nigeria’ s democracy.
