DISBELIEF As Labour Party Welcomes Rabiu Kwankwaso’s Offer To Peter Obi; SEE The Mouthwatering Offer
The New Nigeria People’ s Party presidential candidate, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, made the offer to compete with Labour Party candidate Peter Obi in the 2027 presidential contest.
The Labour Party accepted the invitation on Sunday. Barely two years after negotiations between the two parties broke down, Kwankwaso recently made a widely shared post expressing his willingness to support the former Labour Party presidential candidate as running mate.
According to The PUNCH, the LP and the NNPP had discussed merging before the general elections in 2023, but the elevated attempt was thwarted by Obi and Kwankwaso’ s unwillingness to cede control. Speaking in Hausa, the former Kano State governor stated that he was prepared to take over if ” certain conditions are met” in a video that was shared on his official account.
Kwankwaso, who acknowledged his rising political profile stated: ” I’ m bigger than Peter Obi politically; I’ m his elder brother, I’ m a PhD holder, I performed better than him when I was the governor of my state. I’ ve no problem with deputising for Peter Obi, but only if certain conditions are met. ”
He further expressed the possibility of engaging in meaningful discussions with Obi, noting: ” We are willing to engage in discussions, provided that trust is established. ”
With roughly 6, 101, 533 votes, Peter Obi of the Labour Party came in third place in the most recent elections, while Kwankwaso came in a distant fourth with 1, 496, 687 votes.
Recall that Kwankwaso has been outspoken in his criticism of the Bola Tinubu- led Nigerian administration, pointing out the shortcomings in the government’ s economic policies that have left Nigerians in dire straits. The PUNCH was informed exclusively by LP National Secretary Umar Farouk said Kwankwaso’ s renewed initiative was a positive step forward.
With his implication that he was a better politician and had a higher degree, he also pleaded with the previous governor of Kano not to put an end to the merger talks once more.
He said, ” As a political party, we stand for good governance and we have equally given all our candidates, both former and serving ones, the opportunity to choose how to associate with people of like- minds who share the philosophy and ideology of the Labour Party. “
