The Ogun State Police Command confirmed the incident in a statement shared with members of the press on Wednesday. Reports indicated that Lawal was attacked at around 11: 00 p. m. as he made his way home from his workshop. He had just alighted from a bus at the Sasure Bus Stop and was crossing the road when the two suspects on a motorcycle allegedly approached and shot him. The attack plunged the community into panic, with residents scrambling for safety, fearing more violence.
The spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, Omolola Odutola, revealed that two members of the community, who were close friends of the deceased, rushed to the Idi- Oke Police Division to report the incident. ” The victim was reportedly returning from his workshop when the suspects allegedly shot him in the head, ” Odutola stated.
The police arrived at the scene shortly after the attack and found Abdullahi Lawal lying unconscious in a pool of blood, suffering from gunshot wounds to the head. Additionally, eight empty shell casings were found at the site, indicating multiple shots fired during the attack. He was immediately taken to a nearby hospital, where the attending physician unfortunately confirmed his death. The five suspects involved in the gruesome killing were residents of the Iwopin community: Saheed Mureni, Afeez Mureni, Saheed Taidi, Thompson Samuel, and Ogoji Olorunwa. They were apprehended by officers from the Abigi Police Division on Sunday, September 29, 2024.
