A notorious bandit leader, Bello Turji, has released a video in which he called for dialogue with the President Bola Tinubu- led Federal Government and outline his conditions for peace in Zamfara State, Nigeria. Turji, who has been evading security forces since being declared wanted four months ago, made several demands to bring about peace in the region.
In the video, Turji expressed frustration over what he claims are repeated attacks on Fulani people by security agents and vigilante groups. He called for an immediate end to these attacks, stating that peace could only be achieved if the government stops targeting Fulanis.
Speaking from the video, Turji declared, ” Even if you kill us, it’ s God who ordained that to happen, but it’ s not by your power. ” His message was directed at the Nigerian government, accusing its leaders of attempting to wipe out the Fulani population.
The video shows Turji seated on a brand- new motorcycle with a firearm in his possession, and another gun placed beside him, indicating that he remains armed and dangerous despite his call for peace.
Meanwhile, Bashir Ahmad, a former Digital Communications Assistant to ex- President Muhammadu Buhari, has publicly called for the elimination of Bello Turji. Ahmad took to his social media platform, X (formerly known as Twitter), where he posted a photo of Turji and wrote: ” Has to be, at all costs, ” implying that Turji should be eliminated by any means necessary.
Turji recently claimed to have captured two Mine- Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicles from the Nigerian Army. However, the military countered this claim, stating that the vehicles were already non- functional due to the poor condition of the terrain.
In response to Turji’ s continued defiance, the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, vowed to put an end to the bandit leader’ s reign of terror. During a visit to Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State, General Musa assured that the military is determined to bring down Turji and restore peace to the region.
Several high- profile bandit leaders have recently been killed by Nigerian troops or rival groups. This list includes names like Haliru Kachalla Sububu, Kachalla Tukur Sharme (who was killed by a rival gang), and Sani Black, who was killed alongside his brother and two children.
Another notable bandit leader, Kachalla Mai Shayi Kachalla Tsoho Lulu, and Mai’ Yar Gitta, have also met their end. Gitta sustained injuries during a fierce battle with troops in Dansadau Local Government Area and later succumbed to his wounds in Kawaye village, Anka Local Government Area.
