The Nasarawa State Police Force has taken into custody Khadija Aliyu for reportedly snatching a seven- day- old baby girl during a naming ceremony in the Keffi area of the state.
In a separate incident, the Nasarawa State Police Command also apprehended an ex- convict, Hussaini Mohammed, for allegedly stealing motorcycles in the same Keffi area, adding to the recent arrests in the region.
In a statement issued on Sunday, 29th September 2024, Rahman Nansel, the command’ s PRO, revealed that the suspect was apprehended at around 6: 30 pm on Saturday.
Nansel revealed that the suspect had pretended to be pregnant and, seizing the opportunity while the christening was in progress, she crept into the house and snatched the baby who was sleeping.
The suspect allegedly abducted the baby, carrying her on her back and concealing her with a veil, in an attempt to disguise her escape, but was subsequently pursued and apprehended by police officers.

Shedding more light on what happened, he said, ” at about 6: 30 hrs, police operatives attached to the Keffi Division arrested one Khadija Aliyu for stealing a seven- day- old baby girl during a naming ceremony in Keffi” .
” The suspect, who had been claiming to be pregnant, attended a naming ceremony at Behind INEC office, Keffi” .

” While the event was ongoing, she sneaked into the house, stole the baby that was laid to sleep, carried the child on her back, covered her with a veil, and escaped before she was later arrested” , the police correspondent disclosed.
In a separate incident, Nansel revealed that Mohammed was arrested for allegedly stealing motorcycles in the same vicinity, adding to the recent string of arrests in the area.
The PPRO revealed that Hussaini Mohammed, a recently released ex- convict, was arrested by the police while investigating a case of stolen motorcycles, marking a swift return to criminal activity.
Nansel said, ” during the investigation, three motorcycles suspected to be stolen items were recovered from the suspect as exhibits” .
Commissioner Umar Shehu Nadada is inviting members of the public who have had motorcycles stolen to visit the Angwan Lambu Division in Keffi with ownership documents to reclaim their stolen motorcycles, which have been recovered by the police.
Recalling a similar case from July 2024, a 19- year- old woman from Ishehi Hamlet in Misau Local Government Area of Bauchi State was arrested by the police for reportedly stealing a newly born baby.
According to reports, Hajara Usman, the suspect, allegedly collaborated with an 18- year- old accomplice, Ibrahim Usman, from Dugurgama Hamlet, to steal the newborn baby.
Ahmed Wakil, the Police PRO, revealed that the suspect was arrested following a report by a resident of Galawa Area, Akuyam District, Misau LGA, at the Akuyam Police Outstation, alleging that his daughter’ s newborn baby was stolen at approximately 4: 30 am.
