Law enforcement agents in Ogun State have caught a suspect, Ogidan Mustapha, for purportedly chopping off the hands of a lifeless 13- year- old teenager, who was the child of his next- door resident, in the Sagamu region.
Policemen arrested Ogidan Mustapha at approximately 1: 30 am on Friday while he was trying to secretly dispose the deceased’ s remains in the vicinity of Igbosoro River, Igode village.
Sources revealed that the remains of Oriyomi Adegboyega, the deceased, were discovered covered with a mat.
Speaking to local journalists, Police PRO Omolola Odutola verified the incident, stating the arrest resulted from information shared by a collaborating security organization. Additionally, three suspects were apprehended for aiding in grave excavation.
Omolola Odutola stated that Peace Adegboyega, the mother of the deceased, reported to the authorities that her daughter passed away due to electrocution at approximately 10: 20 am on Thursday.
Adegboyega expressed horror upon learning that neighbour Ogidan was in possession of her daughter’ s dismembered remains, despite plans for the deceased’ s burial being in progress.
Upon searching the suspect’ s house, authorities found two English pump action rifles and a collection of local mystical charms, the spokesperson revealed.
Odutola said, ” an intelligence source from a sister security agency alerted the divisional police officer of Igode that on the 20th of September 2024, at about 0130hrs at past midnight, they trailed a suspicious movement to a bush around Igbosoro River in Igode village and caught one Ogidan Mustapha as he dumped a corpse” .
During questioning, the suspect denied mutilating the victim but confessed to transporting the intact body after Sunday Adegboyega, the victim’ s father, requested his help in burying her remotely.
” The suspect denied the amputation of the 13- year- old girl, but he admitted that the girl’ s father, one Sunday Adegboyega, 56, requested him to assist in burying the deceased far away from home, but he carried the corpse with a complete body from the father’ s compound, ” she said.
Omolola Odutola announced that the suspects have been relocated to the State Criminal Investigation Department for thorough probing and potential legal action. Essentially, they’ ll be facing further investigation and likely prosecution.
