The Governor of Zamfara State, Dauda Lawal, has expressed confidence that the reign of terror led by notorious bandit leader, Bello Turji, will soon be brought to an end.
According to reports, Turji, along with his criminal group, is believed to be hiding in the border areas between Zamfara and Sokoto states, around Shinkafi just to escape from being killed by the Nigerian military who has determined to take him and his men down.
Governor Lawal shared this update during his appearance on *Politics Today*, a program on Channels Television, hosted by Seun Okinbaloye, on Monday night. His comments come shortly after the Nigerian military achieved a significant victory by killing another notorious bandit leader, Halilu Sububu.
Lawal praised the efforts of the military and the Community Protection Guards (CPG) in Zamfara State, stating that their combined efforts will soon result in the capture or killing of Turji and his gang.
” It’ s only a matter of time, ” the governor emphasized when asked about the likelihood of Turji being neutralized. He expressed confidence in the ongoing collaboration between the Zamfara State government, the Federal Government, and security agencies, predicting that Turji’ s end would come ” very, very soon. ”
The military’ s recent successes, including the killing of Halilu Sububu, have sparked optimism in the region. Sububu, who had long terrorized Zamfara, Sokoto, Niger, Katsina, and other parts of the North- West, was notorious for his involvement in kidnapping, murder, and other violent crimes. His death, along with 30 other bandits, was widely celebrated in Zamfara and surrounding states.
When asked whether the capture or killing of Turji would completely end banditry in the region, Governor Lawal acknowledged that it might not fully eradicate the problem but would significantly reduce it. ” It will bring it down significantly, ” he said.
Lawal also commented on the ongoing military operation in the region, codenamed *Fansan Yamma*, praising the military’ s efforts. He stressed the importance of maintaining pressure on bandits and other violent groups in order to achieve lasting peace.
” What we need to do is sustain this military pressure, ” he said, adding that if the current momentum is maintained for the next two weeks to one month, the situation in the North- West could see a major improvement.
The governor’ s comments reflect growing optimism that the concerted efforts of the military, security agencies, and local community groups will soon bring an end to the reign of terror in Zamfara State and beyond.
