Reports have surfaced that Ajuri Ngelale has stepped down from his role as the spokesperson for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. However, in a new development, *Premium Times* published a report on Sunday indicating that Ngelale’ s departure was not entirely voluntary. Quoting sources close to the Presidency, the report suggested that Ngelale’ s resignation was influenced by his inability to meet the expectations of the job.
According to the *Premium Times* publication, some members of Tinubu’ s administration expressed dissatisfaction with Ngelale’ s performance, pointing to his lack of experience and professional networks.
A source revealed, ” It is a misnomer and a miscalculation for the President to have appointed such a junior journalist to such a senior position. It is no surprise that he could not deliver as expected. ”
Further fueling speculation, the *Foundation for Investigative Journalism Nigeria* published claims that Ngelale was, in fact, fired by the Presidency, contradicting his initial statement of resignation.
Ngelale’ s appointment as Tinubu’ s spokesperson in August 2023 was met with some skepticism. Last year, the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) had expressed doubts about his suitability for the role, describing him as unfit for the position.
