The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested Akaninyene Okokon for allegedly beating his 16- year- old daughter, Abasiono Akaninyene Sunday, to death. The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Olatoye Durosinmi, announced the arrest during a press conference at the police headquarters in Uyo, where 195 other suspects were also paraded for various offenses.
According to Durosinmi, Okokon was arrested by operatives of the Ikot Ebo Divisional Headquarters after receiving credible information. The suspect allegedly beat his daughter to death for using his SIM card to call her boyfriend. Instead of seeking medical attention, the victim was taken to a prayer house, where she eventually died.
Okokon denied the allegations, claiming that his daughter died from a stomach upset. However, his account contradicts the evidence, and the police are investigating the matter further.
The arrest is part of a broader effort by the Akwa Ibom State Police Command to tackle various crimes in the state, including kidnapping, theft, cultism, and pipeline vandalism. During the press conference, Durosinmi highlighted the achievements of the command

In a statement, the Governor said, ” We are deeply saddened by the death of this young girl and will do everything in our power to ensure that justice is served.
