16 Travellers Burnt To Death As Bus Catches Fire On Expressway; See What Caused It
Tragedy struck as some people lost their lives in a ghastly motor accident that happened on an express road in Ondo State. It was a terrible incident as one of the vehicles involved went up in flames, leading to the death of the majority of people involved, they were burnt to death. The accident happened due to the impatience of one of the drivers. The accident is another lesson and warning for motorists. Not less than 16 people were burnt to death on Tuesday night in an accident that happened along the Ore to Ondo expressway in the Ajue area of Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State. The deceased was traveling on an 18- seater Toyota Hiace passenger bus, going to an undisclosed location when the unexpected happened to them.
An eyewitness explained that the bus driver was driving at a high speed on the road. Before the accident, the driver attempted to overtake a truck in front of him but unfortunately, before he realized that it was too late for him to overtake, he could not avoid the truck and eventually rammed into it. The accident was so severe that the bus caught fire immediately. Many passengers were trapped inside the bus and that led to the death of many of them who were burnt beyond recognition.
While confirming the incident, the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in the statement released, revealed the cause of the crash. He attributed the cause to over- speeding and wrongful overtaking. He stressed that motorists need to abide by and obey speed limits and always at alert of other vehicles’ movements on the road.
