Former Students Fatally Stab Teacher Outside School Premises
In a tragic incident at Model Secondary School in Jalingo, the capital of Taraba state, former students are accused of fatally stabbing their teacher, identified as Bassey Sardauna, just outside the school premises. The shocking event unfolded while the teacher was boarding a tricycle to go home.
Vice Principal Academics of the school, Tsokwa Sani, revealed in a telephone interview with Channels Television that the dispute leading to the stabbing originated from an inter-house inspection. An ex-student reportedly disrupted the inspection by entering the school to sign a Nigeria Air Force form.
According to Sani, the trouble escalated when the former student, accompanied by a colleague, attempted to interrupt the inspection. Despite being asked to leave, the situation intensified when the teacher flogged the former student for causing a disturbance. The former students left the school premises after the altercation.
The school management, anticipating potential conflict, advised the teacher not to leave on foot but to use a colleague’s vehicle for safety. However, the teacher, confident that he could face the former students, declined the offer. Subsequently, three colleagues accompanied him to the roadside, where he boarded a tricycle.
As the tricycle set off, the former students, along with other individuals, allegedly attacked the teacher, stabbing him in the leg. Severely injured and losing a significant amount of blood, the teacher was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre in Jalingo. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries during medical attention.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Abdullahi Usman, confirmed the incident, stating that a discreet investigation had been initiated. The Commissioner of Police directed the investigation, and once the culprits are identified, they will be arrested and charged accordingly.
The teacher’s remains have been deposited at the morgue of the Federal Medical Centre in Jalingo.
