Tension Erupt In Southeast As Simon Ekpa Vows To Paralyze Region With 30- Day Lockdown Over Nnamdi’s Detention
In a bold move, Simon Ekpa, the leader of the Biafra Republic Government in Exile (BRGIE), has announced a month- long lockdown of Nigerian government offices across the South- East region. This drastic measure is in response to the escalating insecurity and violence in the region, as well as the continued detention of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). The lockdown, set to commence on August 28, 2024, and end on September 26, 2024, aims to pressure the Nigerian government to address the region’ s grievances.

Ekpa made the announcement on his official X handle, revealing that the decision was made during a virtual meeting of the BRGIE cabinet. The lockdown will target Nigerian government institutions in the South- East states of Imo, Abia, Enugu, Ebonyi, and Anambra. This move is a response to the incessant killings of Christians and Biafrans, invasion of churches, and abduction of worshippers in the region.
The BRGIE leader outlined specific demands, including the immediate release of Nnamdi Kanu and other Biafrans detained by the Nigerian government. Additionally, Ekpa called for the withdrawal of all Nigerian security forces from the South- East region.
” The Biafra government has approved the lockdown of Nigerian institutions in Biafraland due to the continued killings of Christians and Biafrans, invasion of churches, and abduction of worshippers, ” Ekpa stated. He further emphasized, ” We demand the total withdrawal of all Nigerian security forces from Biafra territory and the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and all other Biafrans detained in various locations in Nigeria, including in the far North. “
