The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, the apex socio- cultural organization representing Igbo youth across Nigeria and the diaspora, has issued a forceful warning in response to any potential threats or planned attacks against Igbos residing in Lagos State and other regions in the South- West. This declaration follows a provocative post made by an X (formerly Twitter) user, identified as Lagospedia, which called for the forced relocation of Igbo people from the area, sparking outrage within the Igbo community.
In a strongly worded statement, the National President of the Council, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, condemned the call as unpatriotic and incendiary, emphasizing that such divisive rhetoric poses a significant threat to the unity and peace of Nigeria. Mazi Nnabuike made it clear that the Igbo community would not stand idly by in the face of such hostility, warning that any attacks on Ndigbo would be met with swift and severe retaliation.
Titled ” Enough is Enough, ” the statement articulated the Council’ s zero- tolerance policy towards any efforts to incite violence or marginalize the Igbo people. Mazi Nnabuike underscored that the Igbo community, which has long contributed to the social, economic, and cultural fabric of Nigeria, deserves the same respect and protection as any other ethnic group in the country.
” We want to unequivocally declare today that Ndigbo are not cowards; our forefathers were not cowards; they were brave, and so are we, ” Mazi Nnabuike stated. He urged those behind the divisive and inflammatory messages to cease their actions immediately, warning that the Igbo people should not be mistaken for weak or passive due to their historical restraint and commitment to peace.
Nnabuike’ s message was clear: while the Igbos have shown a strong preference for peace and unity, this should not be interpreted as a willingness to accept mistreatment or threats. ” Any attack on Ndigbo by anybody will be met with unimaginable retaliation. We are not second- class citizens of this country. No one is more Nigerian than the Igbos, ” the statement continued.
