In a shocking discovery, two young men were caught by the police and a vigilante group in Ogwashi- Uku, Aniocha South Local Government Area, Delta State, with a coffin containing female pants and brassieres. The suspects, who were apprehended on Wednesday night at about 9: 30 p. m. in Agidiehe quarters of the community, were initially intercepted by the vigilante members before the police were invited to take over.
According to a reliable source, the suspects were believed to be ” Yahoo boys” (internet fraudsters) and were found with a large number of female undergarments, including pants and brassieres, in a coffin. The source revealed that the women and youths from the neighborhood were outraged by the discovery and expressed their anger over the activities of the suspects.
The crowd was reportedly on the verge of mobbing the suspects, but the timely intervention of the police prevented any harm from coming to them. The source noted that the incident has raised concerns about the source of the female items found in the coffin and called for the law to take its course to serve as a deterrent to others.
Confirming the arrest, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Onome Onowakpoyeya, stated that the suspects were in possession of the coffin for alleged ritual purposes. She revealed that the female pants, brassieres, and other items were seen in the coffin when the suspects were forced to open it.
Onowakpoyeya added that the Command had stepped up investigation into the matter to determine the motive behind the suspects’ actions and to identify any potential accomplices. She assured that the police would leave no stone unturned in ensuring that justice is served.
The police have urged residents to remain calm and to provide any information that could aid in the investigation. The incident serves as a reminder of the need for vigilance and the importance of reporting suspicious activities to the authorities.
