AFTER Day 10 Of #EndBadGovernance Protest, Sowore Shocks Tinubu, Announces New Date To Resume Massive Protest
Omoyele Sowore, the 2023 presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), has declared that the #EndBadGovernance protests will resume on October 1st if the demands of the protesters are not met by President Bola Tinubu.
The announcement was made through a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, and cited by the LATEST_NEWS Blog. Sowore’ s statement comes after a 10- day demonstration organized by various groups across the country.
The protests, which initially began to address the rising costs of living and the removal of subsidies on electricity and fuel, have gained widespread attention and support from many Nigerians who are facing economic hardships.
The Osun State Civil Societies Coalition (OCSC), which represents several civil society organizations in the state, also voiced their concerns.
In a statement signed by its chairman, Waheed Lawal, the coalition criticized President Tinubu’ s recent nationwide broadcast on the protests. Lawal emphasized that the president’ s speech did not address the core issues raised by the protesters.
” We are deeply disappointed with the president’ s response. He spoke without truly listening to the cries of Nigerians who are suffering daily due to the removal of fuel and electricity subsidies. This policy has led to hyperinflation, an unbearable cost of living, and increased economic hardship across the country, ” Lawal stated.
The OCSC demanded the immediate reversal of the subsidy removal and called for the release of all protesters currently detained by the police, including those who were arrested during the #EndSARS protests.
The coalition also urged the federal government to implement policies that would alleviate the economic burdens on Nigerians rather than distributing palliatives to the states.
” The #EndBadGovernance protest may have officially ended, but if the government fails to address our demands, we will return to the streets in even greater numbers, ” Lawal warned. ” We will organize a more disciplined and widespread movement of youths and citizens who are demanding better governance in Nigeria. ”
As the October 1st deadline approaches, all eyes will be on President Tinubu to see how he responds to the growing unrest and the demands of the Nigerian people.
